Fun on the Slopes - 20 April 2010
Twenty two people
turned for Sno-tubing and tobogganing at the Ski Centre
Plymouth but there was no snow. In fact the weather was quite
pleasant but fortunately everyone was ready to make the best of
it.
We divided into two groups and with an
enthusiastic crowd of supporters set about a half an hour of each
of the activities. Each group found the Sno-tubing most tiring and,
I believe, most exhilarating. Sitting in the tubes and sliding down
the slope in twos, threes and fours, forwards, backwards and
spinning there developed a competition to find ever more different
ways to reach the bottom.
By contrast, tobogganing seemed much more
sedate – as long as the brake was kept on. Several people did keep
the brake on at first, but by the fifth ride I am sure new records
were being set for the fastest decent.
After an hour of very energetic activities
(even for the spectators) it was enjoyable to exchange experiences
over a drink and biscuits in the lounge. I am sure everyone enjoyed
their time at the Ski Lodge and it was particularly pleasing to be
thanked by everyone involved.
Lunch Cheque Presentation
80 members gathered on a wet Sunday for lunch at The
Livermead Clilff Hotel, Torquay on 29th November.
As usual the food choice was extensive and good and the company
was great!
Following the meal a cheque for £2,600 was presented to Jan
Tyrrell, SW Area organiser for Diabetes UK. This brings the total
to £7,600 raised by Drake Branch over the last two years for
Diabetes UK.
A draw was held on the day, raising £160 for RNLI. All prizes
given out were donated by the lunch guests.
When we departed the rain had stopped and we had a more
comfortable journey home!
