Regional Council Ball - 26 September
2009
The Regional Council Ball
took place at the Five Lakes Hotel and Country Club in Maldon
Essex. It was a fun evening with dancing, eating and being with
friends. The highlight of the evening was Eastern Point
winning the regional foil trophy, national foil trophy and
the best Branch for PRLO efforts.
Another year of successes for the Branch, it’s such a privilege
to be part of the only region in the UK to win all three national
trophies this year.
Eastern Point Celebrates 35th
Anniversary
Members of the Eastern Point branch of the Foresters have just
celebrated their 35th Anniversary and the
135th Anniversary of the Foresters at the Wherry Hotel,
Oulton Broad.
Guests had travelled from all over the country to join them on
this special occasion. They included Bernard Bloom the
International Fraternal President and his wife Maureen, David
Howell the President of the London & Southern Regional Council
and his wife Rita, representatives from other branches in London
& Southern England and also branch members from Northern and
Central England. There were also members from the UK Office in
Bromley.
The evening took the form of a Dinner & Dance. After an
excellent dinner, congratulatory speeches were made over coffee.
Music for dancing and entertainment was provided by C J Keene and
the K-Syl-R Roadshow. Prizes for the Tombola had been donated by a
number of local businesses and a total of over £270 was raised for
the charity, Waveney Sailability, which was most appropriate as the
venue overlooked Oulton Broad, where the disabled sailors, enjoy
their sailing on a Tuesday afternoon.

A charity match for Waveney
Sailability was held at the Regent Bowl, Great Yarmouth on 31 May
2009. The Sunday League ended their season with their usual match
for charity, organised by Ken Besford. The match started with
Alison Kinder from Waveney Group Schemes Ltd bowling the first ball
and then 20 teams of two playing three games each and then
the winners battled out the finals, with a further three games. The
winners of the trophy were Steven Brown and Hilary Finch, second
were Mark Woods and Jean Turrell, Julie Mercer and Philip Brown
were third. Josh and Laurie Lobo won the Non League prize. Richard
Finch, President of Eastern Point branch of Foresters and Richard
Morling, Chairman of Waveney Sailability, presented the prizes.
There was a monster raffle where most
entrants won a prize, with a fantastic total of £540 being raised
from the evening for Waveney Sailability, a charity that teaches
people with disabilities how to sail. They sail every Tuesday
afternoon at Oulton Broad, on their enlarged fleet of 12 boats, for
details phone 01502 475228.
Thanks should be expressed to all who
donated prizes for the raffle and to the joint sponsors, Foresters
and Waveney Group Schemes Ltd, who enabled all the proceeds to go
to the charity.
