London & South East Regional Council Assembly
Our Regional Council Assembly took place at
Fairfield Halls in Croydon on 27 September 2008. The Assembly
took on a different style with shorter reports not so full of facts
and figures, also a speaker on a very different subject to any of
the items reported on. Mrs. Kay spoke on the subject of
childhood memories. She was very interesting and spoke about
things we all remembered such as conkers, marbles, hopscotch and
skipping.
Congratulations must go to Two Greyfriars’
members who were installed as Regional Council officers - Ann
Osborne had been R.C. Treasurer and was proposed as Vice
President. Eddie Horne became a Regional Councilor.
194 attended the Assembly and 210 enjoyed
the Dinner in the evening. The theme for the evening was Harvest
and Autumn, the room was decorated with scarecrows and baskets of
dried poppy heads, corn, Autumn leaves, conkers and fir
cones.
Finally, the raffle held during the evening
raised £651 for the National Association of Children’s
Hospices. Everyone felt this was an improvement on the past
Assembly and an excellent evening with good meal and entertainment
was enjoyed by all.
Sunday Lunch
We had an enjoyable Sunday lunch on 31
August at The Mill House in Swallowfield. During lunch
a raffle for CLIC Sargent was held raising £71.50.

Summer Outing to Whipsnade Wildlife Park
On 13 July we enjoyed a
member's family day out at Whipsnade Wildlife Park.
We were blessed with a lovely dry day to explore the wild life
park with too much to see and do, the children were all tired out
on the way home.

Birch Copse School Fete
In June, Greyfriars Branch sponsored the Birch Copse School
Fete, which provided lots of family fun and games, successfully
raising over £3,500. This money will be used to improve
facilities for the children at the school.
Malvern Spring Show - 11 May 2008

22 people attended this event on a Glorious Sunny
Day. We
arrived just after 10 am and spent 7 hours exploring this show –
plenty of plants were loaded onto the coach for the return journey,
it was an enjoyable if tiring day. But there was plenty of places
to sit and eat & drink.
