Longbow Quiz Night 2010
Yes, spring is upon us & our March Hare
Quiz came & went without a hitch.
This twice-annual event is continuing to draw
good regular attendance well in excess of 50 & proving popular
with a wide range of ages – March 6th was no
different!
55 Members & guests were at the Musters
Sports & Social Club to prove they knew more than the other
teams with Team names ranging from the Twirlies & Tricky Trees
to regulars like the Pendragons, Odd Balls & Brain Deads (no
clues there)
Rounds included a “Girl Power” music round
with thanks to Janet & her laptop & speakers plus a devious
“Cryptic Numbers & Proverbs” round - possible points totalled
130 including team Jokers!
Joint runners-up were “Didley Squat” & the
“Dead Beats” with scores of 102 but our March winners were a new
team called “Off The Piste” (with some familiar faces)
Well done to them!
The Booby Prize for the lowest score was
awarded to “Waterside Wanderers”
After our Fish & Chip supper, the raffle
raised £83.00 for our elected charity – Lincs
& Notts Air Ambulance.
Thanks to everyone who supported the event –
our next Longbow Quiznight is on Saturday 6th November
2010, same time, same venue.
Be there for a fun evening!
Longbow Charity Involvement in 2009
At the end
of May we sponsored the Nottinghamshire Hospice’s
first Midnight Memory Walk. There were over 200 walkers that set
off, all with their own stories and reasons for walking. A 10km
circular stroll that started and ended at Notts Forest Football
ground. This event raised £13,791.
In July we again supported CLIC Sargent with
both sponsorship and volunteers at the QMC abseil. Once again such
a fun event and inspiring. Could you overcome your fear of heights
to raise money for a loved one. This year the grand sum of £20,307
was raised. Join us in 2010 on the 4th July. Contact Dee
Richardson on 0113 230 7902 or email: dee.richardson@clicsargent.org.uk
for a registration form.
We would also like to recognise Longbow volunteers that have
this year been out collecting for Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance
and to date have raised over £12,000 – THANKS GUYS.
We will be presenting the full years total to the organisation
at our 45th Dinner Dance in February – come along and
enjoy the evening with us, you’ll be made very welcome.
Scholarship Award
We are very pleased to announce that another young person
in our area, has been offered a Foresters Scholarship.
Chris Hardy of Woodall Spa, Lincs. is off to Liverpool University
to study architecture. So, congratulations and also well done for
just passing your driving test.
Quasar Adventure - 16th April 2009
The
event organised by the foresters at Quasar turned out to be a
Fantastic day for everyone - we all enjoyed ourselves and had a
good time. It’s great to see more and more youngsters taking part
too ! Encouraging youngsters to get involved is great way for the
foresters to stand out from other charitable organisations .
Together with more activities like this and educating our young
foresters as to what we are all about we can really drive the
organisation forward after all our young foresters are the future
of the organisation.

Kind Regards
Ashley Blackwell

Saturday Night Longbow Quiz proves huge
Success
Musters Sports & Social Club was once
again the venue for our twice yearly Longbow Quiz Night with Fish
& Chip Supper on Saturday 7th March.
Over 60 Longbow Quizzatiers once again tackled
the simple questions put together by Dave Saunders, our resident
“easy going” Question Master, who is always amazed at our Members
knowledge of total trivia. 13 Teams entered with such diverse Team
names as “ The Wheelie Bins” “The Brain Deads” “The Hucknall
Hopefuls” –and not forgetting “Didley Squat” Perhaps there should
have been a name for the best Team name – but there was not!
Possible points obtainable during the evening
totalled 110 & most achieved over 70.
The highest score for a single round if you
played your joker was 20, which only one team achieved.
They were “The Tricky Trees”, but no prize for
this either.“The Carlton Ramblers” came third with 80.5 points
“The Cruisers” were runners-up with 84 points
………..but the winners were “4’s a Crowd” who reached a total of 90.5
points – congratulations to Tony & his team.
Following the prize giving, “The Hopefuls”
collected their booby prize for the lowest marks scored – more Tea
Mugs for their collection! During the evening, £84.00 was raised
for Air Ambulance – Longbow’s elected charity for 2009 &
everyone had a great fish & chip supper midway.
If you would like to come along for some fun
next time, get a foursome together if you can – if not, you can
join another couple. Next Quiz Night is at same venue on
7th November – put it in your diary now!

Spring Summer
Dance
At our new venue of the
West Bridgford Masonic Club the scene was set straight away for a
memorable evening. There were bunches of daffodils for all the
ladies, well the next day was St. David’s Day. The 5 course meal
was as good as you get – beautifully cooked and timely served and
with wine to wash it down. It was then time to present our charity
cheque £8307.24 to Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres. After the
formalities the disco men began to entertain us with music from the
past, but we soon put them right and we went through the 60’s, 70’s
and 80’s music until we got right up to date and we really got into
the swing. Only interrupted by our tombola – a prize every time,
and what wonderful prizes we all walked away with, just hope you
remembered to bring a large bag with you to carry them all.
Well, we raised £364 on the night with the
tombola and the collection. When midnight came and lights were
turned down, it was time to say goodnight to all your old friends
and the all the new ones who had attended for the first time. Great
Night !
