On the 27
th September the 2nd Quadrennial Regional
Assembly of London & Southern England took place at the
Fairfield Halls at Croydon.
It was an opportunity for 196 members to
catch up on old friends and make new, before settling down to the
business of the day. After reports by various speakers, there
was a touching memorial item when the names of those no longer with
us were remembered.
The afternoon session had a change of focus,
when our guest speaker, Elizabeth Kay took us back to our
childhood.
After which it was back to business, and more
reports, including a standing ovation which greeted the news that
during the last 4 years London & Southern England has raised
£740,000 for charity and then the International Fraternal
President, Bernard Bloom took over to oversee the election of the
Regional Council for 2008 – 2012. Those elected can be seen
in the photo.
Grateful thanks were given to the retiring
Regional Councillors, Nina Whitlock, Syd Goodwin and Roland
Perry.
The representatives to attend the
International Assembly in Halifax, Nova Scotia from 15-17 June 2009
were announced following a ballot.
The Regional Council were installed by Bernard
Bloom and I was duly elected as President for the next 4 years.
Thanks were given to Lizzie, Emily and
Derek Dowling and Audrey for their hard work making the day run so
smoothly.
The dinner dance in the evening was very
successful with an excellent meal and Nigel Edge provided a varied
programme of music.
Thanks to Ann Osborne and her team for an
excellent evening.
