Regional Council Ladies Walkabout
This year’s ladies walkabout took place in
Sandwich on 29 June. Twelve teams took part in a walk around
the town walls and into many of the small interesting streets in
the town looking for clues. There was a lot of history and the
older buildings made the town very attractive, even the modern
buildings blended very well. It was a really good choice of venue
and the weather stayed fine. Afterwards the teams enjoyed tea
& biscuits also a raffle before setting off home.
The winners were Ruth & Les Ashby from
Royal Thane Branch with 43 points. There were only 8 points
separating the first & last team. Thank you to
Audrey & Mike Gilham for organising such a pleasant
afternoon.

Regional Council Motoring Section Walkabout
Kensington was the venue for the Regional
Council Motoring Section walkabout this year. For the first
time members were able to do the walk at a time to suit themselves,
and it seems to have worked very well.
Answering questions following a route
sheet, the circular walk took walkers through Adam & Eve Mews,
along narrow lanes and passage ways, pass garden squares and gabled
houses that over the yeas have been homes to writers, painters,
musicians and actors. They went into Holland Park passed the
wall of painted murals and carried on through the gardens to St
Mary Abbots church, through the covered walk way and passed the
famous Kensington Roof Garden to the end of the walk.
“Delightful, beautiful” and “I didn’t realise
all that was behind the High Street” were some of the comments made
by the participants.
The winners, Carole and Peter Victory of
Everglade Branch said “It was a lovely interesting walk, being able
to do it when we wanted to and not on a set day was definitely a
good idea”.
Vernon Elmes and the Motoring Section
Committee would like to thank all the members that supported this
event.
Regional Council Holiday to Croatia – 4-11 June 2008
40 members went to Croatia and had a great
time. There was a fishing trip with a BBQ lunch, a wine tasting
& visits to surrounding countryside. The hotel was set on a
hillside with wonderful views. The weather started off cloudy, but
ended up hot so they all came back with a tan. Thanks to Tony
& Sylvia Yates who took over at the last minute.
