Successes
Bitten by the Bug!
Our Branch Treasurer (who is now officially a Senior Citizen)
having taken part in the 2007 Abseil has already decided he wants
to do it again, and several of his team have already agreed to take
part in the 2008 event on Sunday 7 December. This year we are
looking to enter several Forester representative teams. Mayflower
Branch has already committed to sponsoring the event again and has
been fortunate in obtaining partial funding from the new Community
Involvement Fund. If you would like to take part either
individually or as a team or if you have friends who are not
Foresters, but would also like the ‘ Adrenaline Rush’ of coming
over 100ft down the side of the Children’s Hospital in Bristol,
they can be included as well. The only commitment is to raise a
minimum of £100 per team member.

Festive Abseil at the Children's Hospital,
Bristol
This abseil
took place on Sunday 9th December 2007 at Bristol’s
Children’s Hospital in order to raise funds to help CLIC Sargent
continue to provide its vital services for young people with cancer
and their families throughout the UK.
Participants abseiled 100ft in aid of the charity and a team of
4 represented the Branch, Treasurer Brian Thomas, son Neil, son in
law Nick and his brother John - all dressed as ‘Super Heroes’ and
raised over £600. In total the event raised over £23,000 for CLIC
Sargent.
Mayflower Branch paid for all the equipment
hire, instructors and all the administrative costs.
If any members are interested in entering
individually or as a team for this years event, please contact

Toy Presentation
On
Tuesday, 18th December 2007, we were delighted to
present £200 worth of toys to the NHS Walk-in Centre at Knowle West
Health Park, for the use of visiting children.
Branch President, Roger Mills, expressed a hope that the toys
would be of use to the Centre, either in distracting the children
from any treatment they are given or keeping them occupied if a
parent is being treated.
45th Anniversary Dinner Dance
One hundred and twenty eight Foresters members &
friends gathered at the UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST OF ENGLAND on 1st
December to celebrate the 45th
Anniversary of Mayflower Branch and to raise money for THE JESSIE
MAY TRUST, the Charity supported by the Branch.
We were delighted to have 9 Past Chief Rangers
& Presidents of the Branch at the function (see
photograph). We also had the pleasure to welcome the
International Fraternal President, Bernard Bloom and Maureen, the
Regional President, Rosemary Jasper and David, and Jane Atkinson
from the Jessie May Trust.
Charity Chairman, Tony Willis, presented a
cheque for £7500 to Jane, who expressed her sincere thanks for the
work Mayflower Branch has done for the Trust over the years that we
have supported them.
“This was one of the best events we have had”, commented Roger
Mills, President.
