Charity Skittles

Pinewood Shore skittles winnersPinewood Shore held a very successful Charity Skittles Evening at Ocean View Hotel, Bournemouth, on Sunday evening, 28th September 2008 when 65 people were present.  Most people participated and the highest lady and gent were presented with medals.  Val Barnes was the highest lady and John Garret the highest gent.  Val and John then had a play-off and John was the highest overall and was presented with a second medal!  Charity Chairman, Margaret Taylor, presented Val and John with their winners’ medals.  (Photograph shows Margaret and John with one of the medals)

After the very nice meal donated by the hotel, the raffle took place, followed by a knock-out competition in aid of the charity.  This consisted of all members paying 20p with half the proceeds going to the charity and half to the winner, who very kindly donated it back to the charity.  Overall, a total of £475 was made in aid of ‘Tender Loving Care’, our main charity for 2008 and 2009.

Charity Garden Party

On Sunday, 29 June, Foresters Pinewood Shore Branch held a Charity Garden Party at Ferndown Guide Hall, which was opened by Ferndown Mayor, Cllr. Lesley Dedman (in her robes).

Ryan on his trikeThe event was in aid of this year’s main charity, a small local charity ‘Tender Loving Care’.  During the afternoon the secretary of Tender Loving Care thanked the Foresters for their support and asked a young man, Ryan Bailey, aged 8, to show those present a trike that had been purchased for him that week with money raised by our Branch (see photo).  Ryan, who attends Stourfield Junior School, Bournemouth, has cerebal palsy: he said how thrilled he was to now keep up with his younger brother!

In addition, Doug Harris, Branch President, presented Ferndown student, Holly Tovey, with a certificate confirming that she has won a scholarship from Foresters.  Holly, who has just taken her ‘A’ levels at Ferndown Upper School, is going to Bath University to study Mathematics.  She said that she was very pleased to receive the award.

We were lucky to have good weather and everyone enjoyed the cream tea and the 17th Century dancing by “Ring of Eight” in their colourful costumes, including some dances which we were encouraged to join in.
