Successes
Carol Service and Dinner Dance - 13 December 2009
Our Carol Service was held at St. Brinus Church, Morgan's
Rise on Sunday 13 December. It was a lovely service with Organist
Michael Rooke and Conductor John Pugh, and the Victory Singers
leading us in the Carols and also singing various choral works. A
collection raised £65.50 for Church Funds.
We then moved to Hamptworth Golf & Country Club for a
splendid carvery meal - well done the staff. Afterwards Al
Fresco provided music to dance to or sing along. It was a great
start to the festive season and a raffle raised £215.00 for The
Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Murder/Mystery Evening - 7 November 2009
We held our Murder and Mystery Evening at Hamptworth Golf &
Country Club on the 7 November. The Themed Dinner Entertainment
Company Players performed acts between each course of the meal.
There was great fun and banter between the players and the diners,
and it was altogether a very pleasant evening.
The winner with a near perfect score for the clues and the name
of the murderer was Rosemary Jasper, our past Regional President. A
raffle raised £160.00 for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Autumn Walk and Lunches
On 27
September our walk took us into the New Forest. This was a totally
different walk from the previous ones, the first for our little
group but very pleasant. We noticed the great number of berries on
the holly (as our picture shows) probably foretelling a hard winter
in store (this has since proved to be right). Lunch was taken at
the Kings Head, Whiteparish.
Our second walk on 25 October took us to Hengistbury Head and a
walk over the Head itself. Our party managed to get split up
shortly after take off, one going one way and the other a different
way. We all arrived back eventually at the home of Jean &
Laurie Harris, before going on to their local pub for lunch.
Our next walk was called off due to the heavy and persistent
rain, but we spent a happy time at The Landford Garden Centre where
we were joined by Pat & Rod Scott from Basingstoke. Lunch was
at the Wooden Spoon at Downton, where excellent fare was most
enjoyed.
Farm Visit
On 5 August we visited Lyburn Farm for a trip around the
farm. 23 Foresters and friends joined others on three trailers. The
farmer gave a running commentary on the produce and the workings of
the farm which was most interesting. After the tour we returned to
the farm for a welcome cheese salad, wine and beer supper - all
served by the farmer's wife and staff. It was a great evening and
enjoyed by all.
