Foresters and CHAS - Making the Future Brighter for
Children with Life Limiting Illnesses

Last year Foresters volunteers from all
branches right across Scotland championed Children's Hospice
Association Scotland (CHAS). Not only did you help to raise
awareness of the important work that CHAS does helping children
with life limiting conditions and their families, but the events
and projects Foresters supported also helped to raise vital
funds.
A big contributor to the success of the relationship between
CHAS and Foresters was the 'Foresters-Rachel House 10th Anniversary
Celebration recipe Book' which bought in a bumper £60,000 which
when added to the funds raised by other events and activities,
means that Foresters helped to raise over £70,000 - a fantastic
result!
The funds raised are enough to cover not only the cost of
feeding a whole hospice for ayear; providing mums, dads, brothers,
sisters and care teams with fantastic home cooking and nourishment,
but will also cover the costs of providing cleaning materials for
the hospcie for a year - keeping it spick and span and germ free is
essential.
On top of these essential practicalities there is enough left
over for enjoyable but invaluable visits from the Clown Doctors who
treat the chldren with medicine of a different kind ... does of fun
and laughter!
Debbie Traynor from CHAS said: 'Without your help we would not
be able to support our families in this way. On behalf of everyone
at the Children's Hospice Association Scotland, thank you once
again for your continued support'.
Going Abseil-utely Mad!

On 13th May our fearless Regional President,
Davie Williamson, Regional Vice President, Valerie Thomson
(pictured left) and Regional Secretary, Liam Cowe, braved the
challenge of an 80ft vertical drop to abseil from the South Stand
of Motherwell FC's Firpark stadium.
They were taking part in the event organised by CLIC Sargent and
sponsored by Foresters to raise funds to help the two Scottsih
children diagnosed with cancer every day.
In total, 50 people took part in the event to raise a fantastic
£10,000 and CLIC Sargent Community Fundraising Manager, Richard
Donald said: 'We are really grateful to Foresters for supporting
this event. The funds we've raised mean, for example, that
ten families from Scotland can have a much needed break at our
holiday home in Prestwick. They will be able to enjoy a range of
indoor and outdoor activities, giving them a break from the
stresses of their child's treatment for cancer, with medical
support close at hand if necessary - they are in safe hands. Thanks
again to everyone at Foresters for the part they played in making
the event a success.'
