Your Branch Needs You!

Research has shown that 75 per cent of people seriously ill with
cancer would like to be cared for at home. Every year, Marie Curie
Nurses make that wish possible for thousands of cancer patients in
cities, towns and villages across the UK.
Marie Curie Nurses now care for around 50 per cent of all cancer
patients who die at home. They work through the night or during the
day to provide care for patients in the comfortable and familiar
surroundings of their own home.
By sparing just an hour or two of your time
to help with a collection you too could make a difference to this
worthwhile charity.
If you can, please contact Margaret Harper
on 0208 989 9797.
Haven House Collections
Haven House Children’s Hospice provides short-term
respite care and end of life care for children from birth to19
years with a life-limiting or life-threatening
condition.
It takes £1.5m each year to continue to
provide this free service to children and their families within
Essex and North East London. For this they mostly rely on the
support of the local community.
Many
members of Silver Birch have supported Haven House over a number of
years and this year they would like some more volunteers to help
them collect funds at various local venues at various times
throughout 2008.
Even if you can only spare
an hour you’ll be helping to make a real difference to the lives of
those children and their families. Local people helping local
people.
Please contact Margaret Harper on 0208 989 9797 if you think you
might be able to help.
Toiletries Appeal

Are you lucky enough to stay in hotels and
guesthouses from time to time? If you do not need to use the little
bottles of complimentary toiletries or soaps that are provided, we
would be most grateful if you would let us have them for use by the
Redbridge Night Shelter in Ilford Essex.
The shelter provides homeless people with a
warm meal, a bed for the night, a change of clothing if needed, and
the opportunity for a shower or bath. Your unwanted miniature
toiletry bottles would be very welcome. Please contact Joan
if you can help on 020 8989 3647.
Stamps and Foil
I thank all of you who have given me cans, stamps and
foil. Silver Birch is still collecting, keep up the good
work. David Harper, (The Tin Man).
