Branch AGM
The Branch AGM and Election of Officers for
2009/2010 will take place on Friday 5 December 2008 at the Wesley
Centre, Fratton, Portsmouth commencing at 8.00pm.
The Branch is seeking volunteers to run for Office and fill
vacancies of the Officers who are retiring.
Walk for Charity
Sharon
Holder, a member of Solent Branch, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer
during August 2007. Sharon has had to undergo extensive treatment,
which included chemotherapy and resulted in the loss of all of her
hair. She also underwent a mastectomy and radiotherapy. All of this
treatment lasted nine months and during all that time Sharon
remained cheerful and full of confidence throughout. Of course, her
husband, Steve and other members of the family gave her all of the
support that she needed to keep her going in such a confident
way.
Several weeks after finishing her treatment
Sharon entered the Race for Life which raises money for Cancer
Research. Sharon also persuaded her mum, Carolyn James to enter.
They had a really great time on the Race around Southsea Sea Front
and completed the course. It was a great achievement for both
of them, especially Sharon, who was recovering well from her
treatment.
Between them they raised £850, with Sharon’s
employers donating a further £500. A truly wonderful result both in
achievement and money raised for such a worthy cause.
Sharon has since returned to work, albeit
part time, but is starting to increase her hours on a weekly
basis.
Stampede Collection
As you are all no doubt well aware, the
activities in Post Office Mail have altered greatly and as a result
the number of postage stamps has greatly reduced. However, what
postage stamps you do still receive can be turned into cash by Save
The Children Fund (Registered Charity No 213890). So please
save all your used postage stamps and send them to Harold Carter,
188 Havant Rd, Drayton Portsmouth PO6 2EH.
Foresters Jubilee Club
Each year the Regional Council runs the Jubilee Club
which helps to raise money for Children’s Hospices. They support
five Hospices that cover the whole of the Region of Western England
and Wales.
For the sum of £6 you can take part in the
monthly draw with a chance to win £40 £20 or £10. In October there
is a grand draw where the top prize is £200.
