Successes
Presentation Lunch - January 2010
The Presentation Lunch on Sunday January
24th was yet another successful social event planned and
executed by Betty Brown. Solent Branch members and visitors from
other branches in the Region were treated to a delicious 3 course
meal at the ever popular Brookfield Hotel in Emsworth. We normally
hold this sort of event in the evening but this year we decided
lunch-time might be preferred for the warmer, daylight travel.
We were proud to be able to hand over a cheque
for £5,000 to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance,
represented by Mr John Perry, the organisation’s Chief Executive
Officer.
After thanking the branch for its fund-raising success, Mr Perry
described some of the medical activities of the Air Ambulance group
based at Thruxton and he also spoke about their own fund-raising
work.
Pictured above is the cheque being presented by Ron Bennett
to John Perry.
Benevolent Fund
As well as the cheque to the Air Ambulance, the branch gave £200
to the UK Regional Councils’ Benevolent Fund, the long established
fund within Foresters to help members who have fallen on hard
times. The cheque was received by Regional Councillor Philip Park
who travelled from Bridport to join us.
Branch Trophies
We presented branch trophies for services to the branch and for
charity work for the branch to:

Bootylicious Family Fun Day - November 2009
A new venture, this community event was the
brainchild of our hard working Financial Adviser, Jane Talbot
working with local businesses in the Gosport / Lee on the Solent
area. The event included a table top sale, an auction of an
electronic organ, entertainment for the youngsters and refreshments
supplied by the Alverbank Hotel. Despite the unkind weather, we
managed to raise over £1,000 to be shared between our branch
charity, the Air Ambulance and another local group ‘ICANGO’ who
provide transport for elderly or disabled people.
Jane’s Community event suggestions are much
appreciated by the branch and we look forward to the next
one.
