Successes
Dickens World
On Saturday 20th July 2008, 35 Woodland Pine
members and friends journeyed to Chatham Dockyard to visit Dickens
World, which is a purpose built venue. We arrived just in
time to see a presentation of Oliver Twist in which some of our
members’ children in the audience participated as “Fagin’s Little
Helpers”. Two of the adults took the parts of the Judge and
the Constable who had the responsibility for the ‘demise’ of the
Dastardly Bill Sykes.
Around the courtyard were shops, which
featured in the various stories. Fagin’s Den created a
feeling of the time.
Throughout the day in the Britannia Theatre,
there were repeats of Dickens various plays. In the Courtyard
the players performed A Tale of two Cities and the Trial of Fagin
at the Old Bailey.
Around the perimeter of the building ran the
River Thames and the boat rides added the flavour of a dark and
dank atmosphere to the journey.
The restaurant provided a varied menu together
with “The Sunday Roast” speciality.
The trip simply flew by and everyone had a
great day, our thanks to Henry Teuma for organising the outing.

Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Film
Premiere
168 members, friends
and family experienced the long-awaited fourth installment of the
adventures of Dr Jones, all with the compliments of Foresters on
Saturday 24th May at the Vue Cinema in Croydon.
All members were invited to enter a free prize
draw to win a digital camera that was drawn on the day and won by a
local family. Goody bags and entertainment kept the children
(and therefore Mum & Dad!) happy before the show and all went
home having enjoyed the thrills and spills of the latest
blockbuster.
A retiring collection was made for the
Children’s Trust at Tadworth.
Henry Teuma, Branch President, was delighted
with the success of the event, commenting ” It was a real treat
to see so many young families enjoying themselves. We’ve
deliberately tried to organise a whole range of new activities this
year and they just keep getting better. We look forward to
seeing many of these members at our next event".
