Children's Miracle Network UK
For almost
20 years, Foresters has worked closely with Children's Miracle
Network, providing underwriting support for fund raising Radiothons
around the world and now sponsoring the Champions Across the United
Kingdom programme.
We have directly invested £11m
in Children's Miracle Network and this has helped raise
£130m for their hospital partners.
To put this into context, these funds
raised would enable hospitals to purchase 100 MRI Scanners or would
be enough to treat 35,000 children for their stay in
hospital.
There is a Children's Miracle Network hospital dedicated to
serving children in every community across the United States and
Canada and in 2007 Children's Miracle Network expanded to
Europe with its first Radiothon in Ireland in 2007 raising
£400,000. The wonderful work that Children's Miracle
Network do will help over 170 children's hospitals.
The Radiothon programme continues to be one of Children's
Miracle Network's most successful fund raising initiatives
which involves a partnership between Children's Miracle Network, a
local hospital and a local radio station. Each year over 30 million
listeners tune in to 270 radio partners to hear stories about local
children treated at Children's Miracle Network hospitals.
Further campaigns are planned for the UK during 2008 with one in
Edinburgh in September, Cardiff to be held during October/November
with others outlined for Sheffield, Manchesterand Bristol.
Twenty-four children's hospitals across the UK are eligible
to receive funding from Children's Miracle Network campaigns. The
funding will be used to provide additional equipment and services
over and above what is provided for by the National Health
Service.100% of the funds raised are distributed to Children's
Miracle Network hospitals in the UK.

Edinburgh Radiothon - 25th - 27th September 2008
Foresters are pleased to report that the Edinburgh
Radiothon raised almost £100,000 for the Sick
Kids Foundation of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.
The hospital is thrilled with the results and the radio
station (Radio Forth) is already thinking about ways that
they can improve the event next year!
Jo Shepheard, MDS attended the event for
Foresters and was interviewed on Friday just prior to the Foresters
Power Hour where she was able to deliver the key messages about
Foresters involvement in Radiothon.
Foresters received numerous mentions during
the Foresters Power Hours on the Thursday and Friday The teddy
bears were a huge hit, both on-air helping create urgency for
listeners to call, and again when they were delivered to the kids
in the hospital. The kids loved them!
Foresters members, Winifred Southall and
Margaret Farquhar had the opportunity to accompany Jo Shepheard,
and Grant, the presenter from Forth One Radio through the wards to
distribute the teddy bears to the children in the hospital.
Both Win and Margaret said that it was a very moving experience to
meet some of the children and watch them light up when they gave
them the bears.
Win was an exceptional volunteer and event
host. She was there all day on Thursday and Friday at the
hospital greeting the listeners who dropped by to make donations
and talking with families who showed up to tell their
stories.
There were several Foresters volunteers at the
radio station helping with the phones all of whom had a great
experience.
